Vinyasa yoga is a practice that derives from Sanskrit, meaning 'to place in a sacred way'. In this particular style of yoga, the postures are connected with the breath in a "dance-like flow." The sequence of postures typically begins with a warm-up and transition into Sun Salutations, Standing Poses, Balances, Core Work, Backbends, Forward Folds, Twists, and sometimes Inversions. Each pose is held for 3-5 steady breaths while emphasizing the importance of breath, core engagement, pacing, and alignment. The transitions between postures are smooth and graceful, and the music played in the background sets the pace and inspires students to move with care. The postures are introduced with modifications that make them accessible to beginners while still challenging the more advanced students. Vinyasa yoga provides cardio conditioning and challenges endurance, strength, stability, mobility, and balance.
